Alan Pearson

Alan Pearson is a sensitive claims counselor and social worker. His experience in social work stretches from community homes for young people aged from 12 – 17, starting 30 years ago as an unqualified residential worker in the UK, culminating in him becoming Manager of a 6 bed family group home. Spells as a community development worker and advocate broadened his experience particularly in multi-cultural practice. Then in 2005 he came to NZ.

Working for Child Youth and Family, then OT for more than 15 years, Alan gained considerable experience working with young people & whanau affected by drugs, substance & alcohol abuse, a range of health and disability issues, mental health, and sexual and conduct issues were particularly prevalent.

Alan often worked with complex youth justice cases including High and Complex Needs, and those transitioning to living independently.

The nature of his work has ensured Alan is very familiar with the importance of working closely with local communities, which has included predominantly Maori, but also (in Manurewa) people with a Pacific Islander heritage. Other groups and communities were present in this very diverse area.

Alan is a Member of the Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers.

Alan focusses on non-judgemental strength based social work, which sees the person as the expert in their own issues. He becomes a partner in the journey, offering support and advocacy. Alan is particularly experienced in working with other agencies, and has a track record of being particularly effective when advocating on housing and entitlement issues.
